Breast Cancer Awareness Month and TakeCHARGE

October is breast cancer awareness month and throughout the month you may be hearing stories of breast cancer survivors as well as those who lost the battle.  Focus and concentration go into breast cancer research, breast cancer support services, and breast cancer supplies: lotions, underclothing, wigs and more.

That all happens when a woman gets the diagnosis and changes from “person” to “patient”.  After the diagnosis, life becomes a whirlwind of questions, decisions, emotions.  So many of us have been home for months, ironically because we may actually become patients. Why not plan ahead?

TakeCHARGE follows 5 Steps to becoming a well-prepared patient.  You may want to reach out to a friend or family member and start planning together so when the time comes for whatever diagnosis, you are ready and not scrambling to get together your medical records or choose an advocate.

For virtual family or community presentations or discussions on TakeCHARGE contact Pulse Center for Patient Safety Education & Advocacy at [email protected] or call 516-579-4711
